The Yellow House will become a museum

The City of Paris and the City of Beirut join forces for the rehabilitation and transformation of the Yellow house into a Museum of the City’s History. This cooperation is part of the friendship between Paris and Beirut, formalized by the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation in September 2006, explained in April 2010 officials at the embassy and the city of Paris.

During the official launching of the project on April 7th, 2010, Mayor of Paris Bertrand Delanoë said that Beirut has been developing since 2007 this rehabilitation project of the Yellow House, conducted jointly by a team from the two capitals. "The architectural work is built around respect for the trace of the past, conservation, and reconstruction of the building," he added, pointing out that rehabilitation works will begin by fall 2010 and the Museum will open its doors by early 2013. As for Abdel Mounem Ariss, president of the Municipal Council of Beirut, he said that through this project, the Municipality of Beirut is implementing an innovative policy that will contribute to the development of a new image of the city and lead to both national and International emergence of Beirut.

As for those who are in charge of the rehabilitation project, they explain that the Yellow House will be rehabilitated thanks to an approach joining heritage preservation and technological innovation, mingling between ancient and modern, in order to create a place to receive audience, with no exception. The building of the house was launched in 1924. It shows a unique architecture through the superposition of domestic architecture and "architecture of war," developed by snipers who have lived inside it during the civil war, officials add.

"It’s an honour to inaugurate alongside the Mayor of Paris, the project of the “Museum of City’s History ", Bertrand Delanoë said.
